Ed Rimmer

Edward Rimmer

Edward Rimmer is UK chief executive of Bibby Financial Services responsible for overseeing the sales and operations of the Group's 16 companies throughout the UK and Ireland, working with senior directors to ensure successful strategies to drive continued growth in the domestic market.

Edward joined Bibby Financial Services in 1995 as a graduate management trainee and has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks in his 13 years service with the Group. Prior to his current role as UK chief executive, Edward was regional managing director of the central region where he was responsible for Bibby Financial Services companies in Manchester, Liverpool and Leicester.

One of his finest achievements during this time was to start the Manchester business from the ground up and make it one of the most successful businesses in the Bibby Financial Services portfolio within three years of its launch.

In 2005, Edward won the coveted title of ‘Manchester Young Director of the Year' at the prestigious Institute of Directors' (IOD) ‘Director of the Year Awards'. The awards showcased the achievements of the best directors in the region and Edward won the title with his clear vision, strong business acumen, effective industry and community involvement and his ability to foster a first-class company culture.

With over a decade's experience of working with small and medium-sized businesses to help improve their cash flow and realise their growth plans, Edward has an in-depth understanding of business finance issues and the importance of having the appropriate levels of funding in place to ensure businesses are as profitable and successful as possible.

Starter for Five

What's been your business high? I have two - the first is winning the Institute of Director's ‘Manchester Young Director of the Year Award' in 2005. It was fantastic to be recognised by a panel of distinguished judges for my work since joining the Bibby Financial Services Group as a fresh-faced graduate! The second is establishing a brand new Bibby Financial Services office in Manchester and helping it to become in just three years, one of the most successful companies in the Group.

What's been your business low? In 2004, we implemented a necessary restructure of the Group to make operations as effective as possible and ensure procedures were in place to drive the business forwards. With any major business decision, there is always a knock-on effect and despite it being the right thing to do from a commercial perspective, it affected some of the team's morale.

What is your best business advice one-liner? No matter how old or experienced you are, try to learn something new every day.

Who is your business idol? James Dyson.  I admire people who constantly challenge things being done as ‘the norm' and those who ask "Why do we do it that way?". "Just because we always have done", is most definitely not the right answer!

What is your favourite pastime? I love team sports and am particularly passionate about cricket - both playing the great game and watching it. I also enjoy golf, football and skiing. When I'm not playing or watching sport, I love to spend time with my family and friends.
